Cortonesi Agricultural Company

The Cortonesi family lived on this land even before the Second World War. A difficult period in the history of Italy as a whole, and of Montalcino in particular. But it was precisely the desire to invest in the territory, to believe in an evolution that seemed impossible at the time, that allowed the founder Marco to bring the company to its current levels. Of the 56 hectares of land that today make up the company, about 8 are registered with Brunello di Montalcino. Initially worked as a single territory, to create a single wine, already in 1998 Marco understood the potential of the 2 types of soil present on the property: thus was born the idea of producing, alongside the “classic” Brunello made up until then, which then took the name of “La Mannella”, a new product, a selection, born from grapes coming exclusively from the south-east area, and called, precisely, “Poggiarelli”. The composition of the soil, in fact, with clay and sandstone at La Mannella, stony and rich in galestro for Poggiarelli, made the aromas, flavours and emotions totally different from each other, and it was immediately clear that these differences could no longer be ignored.
