Sagrantino Di Montefalco Docg 2015 - Antonelli San Marco
Sagrantino is the traditional wine of Montefalco obtained exclusively from Sagrantino grapes, a vine cultivated for centuries on the slopes of the Umbrian hills characterized by great structure and longevity. Sagrantino reaches full maturity 10-15 years after the harvest and is able to refine in the bottle for over 30 years. Intense ruby red color. Rich and powerful, ethereal and complex aroma. On the palate Sagrantino is a very structured wine, with a strong and persistent tannin.
Antonelli San Marco
Antonelli San Marco is a 170-hectare winery. In 1881 Francesco Antonelli, a lawyer from Spoleto, purchased the property. This began a radical transformation and modernization of the facilities and crops: a report from 1899 already speaks of vineyards with 5,000 vines per hectare. And it is with this philosophy that the company began bottling wines in 1979. Since 1986 the company has been managed by Filippo Antonelli, the 5th generation of Sagrantino Antonelli. For years it has undertaken a path of research and continuous improvement from the vine to the bottle according to a style that is aimed at typicality and balance, drinkability and elegance with delicate extractions and a moderate use of wood. Only grapes of its own production, from organic farming, are vinified, so as to offer a product whose characteristics, qualities and potential have been evaluated and controlled at every stage. The soils, clayey and rich in limestone, have different geological origins: some are deep, others are rich in skeleton, which give the wines intense and varied nuances; austere hills surrounded by woods, with an ideal microclimate for grapes and olives of the highest quality. The red grape varieties grown are mainly Sagrantino and Sangiovese, but also Montepulciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, while the white grape varieties are Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino.
