Red Montalcino Doc 2018 - The Poggione
Red Montalcino Doc 2018 - The Poggione
Rosso di Montalcino Il Poggione is produced with Sangiovese grapes grown in the beautiful vineyards owned by the winery, which extend for 125 hectares in the locality of Sant'Angelo in Colle, in the municipality of Montalcino. In this natural paradise, the grapes benefit from the presence of other crops that are interspersed with the vineyards, as well as from the presence of olive groves and woods of holm oaks and cypresses. A younger and easier to approach version of Brunello, but already with an excellent structure and a great personality, Rosso di Montalcino is a very important wine for Tenuta Il Poggione.
The Poggione
Tenuta Il Poggione is an ancient Tuscan winery immersed in the magnificent territory of Montalcino. The story begins with Lavinio Franceschi who, already a landowner in Florence, at the end of the 19th century decided to purchase some plots of land in those fascinating lands that stretched along the western side of the Montalcino hill. It all began here, with the Franceschi family who soon began viticulture on their lands, giving maximum prestige to the Sangiovese grape variety. At an altitude of between 150 and 450 meters above sea level, plants that are over fifty years old are grown, and which enjoy a particularly favorable microclimate, thanks to the proximity of the Terreno and Mount Amiata. Fine and pure grapes are processed in the modern winery, completely renovated in 2004 and equipped with the most advanced winemaking technologies, always used in compliance with the most ancient local traditions. After vinification, the aging takes place in large French oak barrels, placed in rooms entirely underground, five meters deep. This is how the wines labeled “Il Poggione” come to life.
