I Veroni Farming Company
The history of the I Veroni farm dates back to the end of the 1500s when it was owned by the noble Gatteschi family who built the first fermentation tanks for musts, which are still visible today. I Veroni is currently a winery located in the Chianti Rufina area. The company extends over a property area of 70 hectares, of which 20 are replanted with vineyards and the remainder are cultivated with olive groves with a total of approximately 4000 olive trees. The property extends near the ancient Pieve di San Martino a Quona, where the lands intended for vineyards are located. The vineyards were the subject of a major replanting project undertaken at the beginning of the 1990s, which has allowed I Veroni to now count on vineyards with an average of 5000 vines per hectare, with 16 hectares replanted with selected clones of Sangiovese, 2 hectares replanted with international vines and the remainder with white grape varieties for the production of Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina. The winery, located in the historic site of the farm at the entrance to the town of Pontassieve, now occupies part of the old winemaking rooms built by the owners in 1809 (and now restored and refurbished for the maturation of wines in wood), and part of it occupies new rooms used for fermentation and storage, renovated in 2004. The Vinsantaia has been preserved in the historic attic rooms inside the eighteenth-century villa, rooms that since the 1950s have been used for storing the Vin Santo barrels, a wine that the company still produces in small quantities today.
